It's a lens through which we can examine whether the narrative battle between two dominant technology stories is masking something more structural.

The core of Schiff's claim is simple: AI's explosive growth will threaten Bitcoin. Whether he's speaking of capital flows, energy competition, or narrative supremacy, the implication is that the same institutional attention and allocation currently directed toward crypto assets will eventually be captured by the artificial intelligence sector.
But understanding this requires dissecting what "threat" actually means in this context. Is it a technical threat? A capital allocation threat? Or is it purely narrative?

However, Schiff's argument holds a different weight when you consider that AI's total addressable market in traditional equities is an order of magnitude larger than all of crypto combined.
The Energy Competition Reality
Here the data gets more granular. Bitcoin mining is powered by ASICs โ specialized silicon that performs one function: computing SHA-256 hashes. AI training and inference is powered by GPUs and TPUs. These are fundamentally different pieces of hardware. A GPU cannot replace an ASIC for Bitcoin mining. An ASIC cannot train a large language model.
